Thoughts On Road Signs By Greg Liples His Site I was driving around yesterday…not well…and I see a sign that reads “flooding will occur during rain”. Now, let me get this straight. Instead of building the street to prevent flooding…they put up a sign stating the flaw in the street? This is like building a building, and instead of having it earthquake safe, putting up a sign that says “Building will collapse during Earthquake”. This is the pattern. We have signs to get out of doing things. Slippery floor signs for example…there’s the water on the ground. Nobody is around. How about mopping it up? You come back home from work, go to your spouse’s room, there’s a sign sitting on the bed “Not Tonight”. Signs are always bad news though…stop? Who wants to stop? I don’t. You never see any keep on going signs. Open trench, yield, Arbys…nothing but bad news… I saw a sign the other day. “Keep your eyes on the road.” As I starred at that sign, I thought it was a good idea. After the accident that day, I really wished I had taken that sign’s advice and not looked at it. They should have more signs with good advice. “Don’t hit that car in front of you”, “don’t look at this sign”, “if you’re reading this, you could die”.
