Thoughts On Bench Dedications By Greg Liples His Site Have you walked around a park and noticed that they have these benches that are dedicated to certain deceased people? I wonder how they make that decision. “Jim Bobson died of a heart attack. He donated money to our cause and was a great person…let’s give him a bench…” I wonder what it takes to get a statue. I think you have to be a good person who had an exciting death so they can model the statue after the way you die. Statues always have that excitement to them. If Jim Bobson died of falling off of Mount Fuji, he’d get a statue. There would be Jim Bobson climbing a mountain, with a plaque, “He fell from a mountain, but he hasn’t fallen from our hearts.” They always have some weird saying about memory and the way he died. They must have some sort of plaque writers for that. “This guy fell out of a mountain. That’s an easy one. Put something about falling and our heart and memory, and let’s go to lunch.” I wonder how many people actually read the bench dedications. “Who am I sitting on? Oh, died a year ago of an ulcer, sure makes a comfortable bench.” I don’t think I would mind getting a bench though. It’s better then nothing. At least people can sit on your memory. I would rest easy knowing that in death, I’ll still be making people with tired feet happy. |
